CSA may send Lorgat on 'long leave' at BCCI's 'demand' to save 'disputed' tour

Cricket South Africa (CSA) chief executive Haroon Lorgat may reportedly go on a period of 'long leave' at the insistence of the powerful Indian cricket board in order to ensure that India's lucrative tour to South Africa goes ahead.

The CSA has offered to send Lorgat on 'long leave' as a morally unsatisfactory but arguably necessary compromise following the insistence of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to save the tour, albeit in a shortened format than the initial one.

According to Sport24, the former ICC chief executive, who is very unpopular with high-ranking Indian bosses, is likely to have to step aside from affairs involving India so that CSA can make a headway in the complicated impasse between the cricketing nations.

The report mentioned that CSA has informed the BCCI bosses that they would be working out a plan before the end of the tour to ensure that Lorgat is not involved in future dealings with the BCCI, adding that if the proposal comes through, then the BCCI might accede to CSA's wish to play three Tests, instead of two.

The report further said that if the BCCI agrees to keep its team in South Africa for the New Year's Test, that would help CSA reduce its projected loss in revenue.
