The Congress party on Friday asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to do some "honest soul searching" over the false promises they made to the people of the country while adding that they don't need sermons from BJP president Amit Shah.

"Amit Shah is national president of the BJP, and one did expect that he will talk with some maturity. Congress does not need his sermons. In the national executive meet, they should be reflecting doing some honest soul searching that they made false promises to the people, to the youth, to the farmers, to the women," Congress leader Anand Sharma told ANI.

"Time has come for the BJP to give answers to the promises they made to the nation," he added.

Meanwhile, Congress leader R.P.N. Singh asked Shah to remember that the national executive meeting was meant for brain storming not brainwashing.

"Amit Shah is making statements regarding the Congress party. He is in a brainstorming session; he should remember it is a brainstorming session and not brainwashing session. He should remember about the promises made by the Prime Minister when he was campaigning about black money, price rise and corruption," he said.

Shah had earlier in the day said that a depressed and directionless opposition should search for its missing leaders rather than blaming the ruling dispensation at the Centre.

The remark was a dig at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who has been on a prolonged leave from the Parliament to introspect on his party's declining fortunes.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi had however on Thursday said that her son would be back soon from his sabbatical.
