The co-creator of The Simpsons Sam Simon has decided to give away his entire fortune, earned through the ongoing success of the TV show, to charity.

The 58-year-old, who is battling colon cancer, is known for his philanthropy and charitable donations to nonprofits, including the pet charity PETA, Save the Children as well as Australian anti-whaling body the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, which named one of its ships after him in 2012, the Courier Mail reported.

Simon created the Simpsons alongside Matt Groening, and after leaving the show, he retained the post of executive producer title.

His post-Simpsons projects have included hosting a short-lived poker reality series for Playboy TV and a consulting role on US network FX's Anger Management.

The television writer-producer was diagnosed with the terminal cancer five months ago.
