In a bid to rescue the sport's plunging unpopularity, Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has put forward the idea for an all-woman Formula One championship, but it has been shot down by the sport's best-known female racer.

Eccleston'e idea instantly hit the bumper when Susie Wolff, Formula One's best known female racer, shot down the idea. Team bosses have proved equally sceptical of a woman-only special support race to each Grand Prix.

Wolff said that she is aware that people are looking at different avenues but for her, that's not the right direction at all, The Mirror reported.

She said that firstly, she doesn't know where one would find a full grid of female drivers who are good enough, and secondly, she added that she has raced her whole career in motorsport as a normal competitor so why would she ever look for a race where she was only competing against women.

Wolff claimed that she doesn't even know a handful of women who could compete at a high level race series and added that she doesn't even understand the thinking behind it.

Wolff said that there are different ways if one wants to be proactively helping women, but actually organising a women's race, is most definitely not the right way forward.

Ecclestone slated team bosses for not doing more to promote women racers at a meeting in the paddock ahead of Sunday's Malaysian GP. But Wolff stated that she can hand on heart say it would not interest her at all to win such a race.
