Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has reportedly admitted that the sound produced by the new engines introduced this year is 'better than what he thought'.

Ecclestone had said that he was 'horrified' by the quieter sound of the new turbo hybrid engines after the season-opener in Australia two weeks ago.

According to the BBC, after hearing the engines for the first time in Malaysia, Ecclestone said that they were better than he thought.

The Formula One boss said that he had been informed by the teams that the engines could not be made louder and he would have to ask the engineers, but added that the engineers said no to it.

The new Formula One rules have seen the introduction of the new V6 turbo hybrid engine, which is comparatively not so loud as the old naturally aspirated V8 engines, the report added.
