Federer calls for increased drug testing in tennis following 'Viktor Troicki affair'

Swiss tennis ace Roger Federer has called for more drug tests in tennis and said that players are not being tested enough.

Federer, who beat Frenchman Richard Gasquet 6-4, 6-3 to keep alive his hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour Finals, made his statement following the fall-out from the Viktor Troicki affair.

According to Sport24, the six-time World Tour champion said he feels that tennis players are not being tested enough and believes that there is a need for more testing for drugs in the sport.

Stating that he did not get tested at either Basel (Switzerland) or Paris, Federer said that he got tested at London after the first match in the Tour Finals, adding that he thinks that testing has gone down this season as compared to 2003 and 2004, when he used to get tested for almost 25 times a year.

Although Serbian star Novak Djokovic expressed his outrage over the ban handed to his compatriot Troicki for skipping a blood test and said that he no longer trusts the anti-doping system, Federer, along with Andy Murray, took the opposite stance and said that players need to respect the rules and submit to testing.

However, Federer urged the officials not to treat players like criminals if the test comes out to be positive before knowing the facts first.
