Seven-time Wimbledon Champion Roger Federer has moved a step closer to a potential first US Open clash against old rival Rafael Nadal after he easily beat Adrian Mannarino of France, in straight sets, to reach the last 16.
According to Sport24, Federer, seeded at seven in New York this year in what his lowest ranking for 11 years, next faces fellow veteran Tommy Robredo of Spain, against whom he enjoys a 10-0 winning record.
Nadal, the 2010 champion, earlier eased past Croatia's Ivan Dodig, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3, to set-up a last-16 clash with Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber, the report said.
Victory in their fourth round ties on Monday will set-up an exciting quarterfinal between the two veterans of the game, the report added.
