US president Barack Obama has called on the world's football governing body to operate with 'integrity' and 'accountability' while speaking on the ongoing FIFA crisis for the first time.
Obama, who was speaking at the Group of Seven economic summit in Krun, Germany, said that it is very important for FIFA to be able to operate with integrity and transparency and accountability, TMZ.com reported.
He said that football was not only a massive business, but also a source of incredible national pride for Americans, and people want to make sure that it operates with integrity.
He also added that now that the Americans are good at sport, therefore, it was important for them to make it clean.
FIFA has been engulfed in the biggest crisis as seven of its officials were arrested with corruption charges and the incident has adversely affected FIFA's image.
