George Washington's letter to help ratify constitution auctioned for $1.5 mln

A seven-page letter written by the first Prime Minister of United States, George Washington to help ratify the Constitution, was auctioned at Christie's in New York for almost 1.5 million dollar.

Christie's, an art business auction house, said that the seven-page letter was offered by a private collector for sale and was purchased by an anonymous phone bidder for 14, 43,750 dollars, Fox News reports.

According to the report, in 1788, Washington wrote the letter to John Armstrong, a major general in Washington's army, expressing his positive views on the newly drafted Constitution.

Washington wrote that the persons who are chosen to administer constitution will have virtue enough to pursue that line of conduct which will bring out happiness of their country and the constitution is always open to the necessary amendments.

Washington said that a full and fair disclosure of the rights of a man have been given by the framers of the constitution.
