Germany and Switzerland have ensured their spot in the 2014 World Cup after wins over Republic of Ireland and Albania respectively.

According to CNN, Switzerland's Michael Lang scored the crucial second goal in the team's 2-1 win in Albania to clinch qualification for football's global showcase.

Germany have long since been in command of Group C and a 3-0 score line against the Republic of Ireland made it a mathematical certainty, the report said.

2018 hosts Russia only need a draw against Azerbaijan in Baku next Tuesday to clinch Group F, the report added.
