England captain Steven Gerrard is reportedly of the opinion that the fearless approach of Liverpool teammate Raheem Sterling can revive the national team's World Cup hopes.
England, who lost 2-1 to Italy, will fight for Group D survival against Uruguay in Sao Paulo on June 19 after both lost their World Cup openers.
According to the BBC, Sterling had been outstanding despite defeat and Gerrard said that the winger is fearless and that is the way he plays, it is in his character and he does not worry about opponents.
Gerrard said that for Sterling's first start in a major tournament there were flashes of positivity, adding that he is a big player for the future.
Sterling made his competitive debut, with midfielder Jordan Henderson, striker Daniel Sturridge and forward Danny Welbeck also starting, in the game against Italy.
Moreover 20-year-old Ross Barkley came on as a late substitute in the game.
Gerrard said that manager Roy Hodgson displayed bravery putting the young lads in, giving them a good go and that is the future of this England team with all the young talent in the dressing room.
