In a major relief for Bollywood actor Salman Khan convicted in the 2002 hit-and-run case, the Supreme Court on Friday rejected the plea to cancel the superstar's bail.

Mother of Ravindra Patil (Salman's police bodyguard) had filed the petition seeking the cancellation of his bail.

Salman was granted bail by the Bombay High Court the same day he was convicted and sentenced by the session's court.

On May 6 this year, Salman was convicted for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, besides several other offences and sentenced to five years jail against which he filed the present appeal in the High Court.

The prosecution wrapped up its case yesterday reiterating that Salman was intoxicated when he was driving the Toyota Land Cruiser which rammed into a bakery in Bandra killing one and injuring four others.
