Commenting on the hate speech delivered by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Praveen Togadia, Congress leader Meem Afzal on Tuesday termed the latter's recent provocation as 'dangerous', and wondered whether Gujarat has a government or not.
"Togadia has made such statements before too. But his recent provocation is so dangerous that I wonder if there is anything like a government in Gujarat," said Afzal
On Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's tweet expressing disapproval over the recent hate speeches of partymen, Afzal said: "Their good governance has already failed. Today, he (Modi) is talking about language, when he himself refers to Rahul as 'Shehzada'. 'Shehzaada' is used for the son of the king, but Rahul is a son of a martyred soldier. He should be called 'Shaheedzaada' instead. In the whole history of the BJP, you will not find a single 'Shaheedzaada'."
He also said that there is no point in lodging an FIR against Togadia, as the government and police belongs to the BJP.
An FIR was filed against Togadia for his alleged hate speech on Saturday, after he reportedly said that Muslims should be stopped from buying property in Hindu-majority areas.
Togadia has, however, denied making any such remarks, and said that all this was a conspiracy against him.
The election commission has sought a tape of his speech.
