The ICC has reportedly announced that ticket prices for the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand will be available for as low as five dollars for children and 20 dollars for adults in a bid to get more than one million people through the gates.
Having learned the lessons of the 2007 tournament in the Caribbean, where high ticket prices meant many of the matches were played in front of sparse crowds, organisers have made affordability for families a key consideration.
According to the Express Tribune, Cricket World Cup chief executive John Harnden said that they want to put on an event which makes everyone who loves the game feel included, adding that cricket is a family game and like any sport, they want to inspire the next generation.
Organisers are also hoping to engage immigrant communities in the 14 host cities to help fill the grounds and provide what they hope will be a carnival atmosphere, particularly at the 42 pool matches.
