Young pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar was at his best as India beat Sri Lanka by 81 runs under the Duckworth- Lewis method to seal a final spot in the tri-nation series in West Indies, where they will play Sri Lanka once again.
The Champions Trophy winners, who also got a bonus point from this win, finished at the top of the table.
After India put up 119-3 in 29 overs, the Lankans were assigned a victory target of 178 from 26 overs, with India needing to restrict them below 167 to qualify for the finals.
Kumar dismissed Sangakkara and Tharanga in successive deliveries as Sri Lanka ended their innings at 96 all out in 24.4 overs.
