Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Sunday inaugurated country's first 'Green Train Corridor', a 114 km Rameswaram-Manamadurai stretch, which will be free from human waste discharge from trains.
All the trains running on the section have bio-toilets. This has eliminated human defecation on the tracks.
Speaking after inaugurating the country's first green corridor through video conferencing from Chennai Central Railway Station, Prabhu said, "35,104 bio-toilets have been provided on trains and 30,000 more such toilets will be installed in the current financial year."
Prabhu also inaugurated an upgraded free Wi-Fi at the Chennai Central which uses 99 antennae provided by Google.
"Indian Railways plans to extend Wi-Fi to 100 Stations during this year. We are committed to extend facility all over the country," he added.
