Iraq's Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari has said that Iraqi forces need US help with surveillance and analyzing intelligence to fight a growing threat by al Qaeda.

According to The Washington Times, Zebari suggests that an unspecified but limited number of American counter terror advisers could be stationed in Iraq to help its military discourage a recent increase in deadly attacks.

His words come 20 months after the US military left Iraq because the two nations could not agree to keep some American troops there to strengthen security, the report said.

Spokesmen at the Pentagon and State Department did not straight away respond to requests for comment, the report added.
