Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen has questioned skipper Alastair Cook's endorsement of fellow opener Adam Lyth, and expressed doubts about the latter being Test material.
Pietersen said Lyth did not appear to have the required quality to be at the top of the England batting order, Sport24 has reported.
He was reacting to Cook saying that 27-year-old Lyth would have a big score under his belt sooner than later.
Left-hand opener Lyth's top score in six innings during the ongoing Ashes series is 37, and on three occasions, he has failed to reach double figures.
KP's comments come ahead of the fourth Ashes Test to be played at Trent Bridge from today.
