Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday demanded incumbent Vasundhara Raje to step down from her post for a free and fair investigation in the Lalit Modi row.

"She should step down so that a fair investigation can be conducted and everything becomes clear," he said.

"This should have been the way, but unfortunately it has become a tradition in the BJP that nobody cares," he added.

Advani had reportedly earlier said in an interview that there is a need to maintain probity in public life and recalled how he resigned soon after his name cropped up in the Hawala scam.
