At least six people have been killed after a powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck Iraq, near the Iraq-Iran border.

Local media reports said that dozens of people were injured on Sunday's quake in the border town of Qasr-e Shirin.

However, Governor of Qasr-e Shirin Faramarz Akbari has confirmed the death of only two people and said that 25 others were injured, reported the Independent.

The epicenter of the earthquake was near the Iraq-Iran border, 20 miles southwest of the city of Halabjah.

The tremor was felt in Baghdad and other parts of Iraq, reported the Independent, quoting Iraqi Meteorology department.
