A short-list unveiled by the TIME magazine has showed that Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai has missed out on the TIME's Person of the Year award, scheduled to be announced on December 10.
Those who have been shortlisted for this year's prize include the Ferguson protesters, Ebola caregivers, Russian President Vladmir Putin, singer Taylor Swift, Alibaba founder and CEO Jack Ma, Apple CEO Tim Cook, acting President of Iraqi Kurds Masoud Barzani, and the US National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell, reported The Express Tribune.
The Ferguson protesters attracted the most number of votes in the poll with 71 percent and 9.2 percent overall favourable votes. Ebola caregivers, on the other hand, received 61 percent favourable votes and 4.5 percent overall votes.
Yousafzai had survived a Taliban attack in 2012. She had already fallen short in the TIME's online readers' poll after securing 60 percent favourable votes and 4.9 percent overall votes.
The annual poll has been running for the past nine decades and picks one winner out of 50 people who are believed to have "most influenced the news this year for better or worse."
The winner will be featured on the cover of the magazine's special annual issue.
