Security was beefed up in Manipur as part of precautionary measures ahead of the upcoming general elections.

Security personnel on Wednesday intensified checking of vehicles and removed black film from car windows as part of the precautionary measures.

Chief Election Officer of Manipur Nabakeshwar said security forces would be deployed according to the scale of sensitivity of the region.

"Since most of our polling stations in outer Manipur parliamentary constituencies are located in the far flung hill districts of Manipur, five hill districts, plus in Thopal district. A large number of about 1000 polling stations are considered as very hyper sensitive and about another 500 are considered as sensitive and remaining are normal. So, according to that kind of classifications we will deploy security forces," said Nabakeshwar.

Every possible precautionary measure has been taken by the State Chief Election Officer and paramilitary forces such as Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Border Security Force (BSF) have started reaching the state.

"Now the security forces have started arriving from the central government and specially the CRPF, BSF have started arriving, so they will be deployed mainly during a few days before the polls," the chief election officer said.
