Former Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar was sworn-in as a Cabinet Minister at the Rashtrapati Bhawan here on Sunday.
BJP general secretary J.P Nadda and former union minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu have also been administered oath of office by President Pranab Mukherjee.
Parrikar, who tendered his resignation as the Chief Minister of Goa on Saturday, is expected to take charge as the country's next Defence Minister. Senior party leader Arun Jaitley has been heading the Defence and Finance Ministry since Prime Minister Narendra Modi was sworn into power in May this year.
Earlier today, Parrikar said he would fulfill any responsibility given to him by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the best of his abilities.
"Do not ask me the portfolio; I am not aware of it. It is up to the Prime Minister. I will work in any field that the Prime Minister Modi allots me," said Parrikar.
