The police have arrested a militant, who had crossed over into the country from Nepal, along with his family members.
Identified as Abdul Gani, he had crossed over to Pakistan 15 years ago and was undergoing training with different militant organisations, the police said.
He had joined Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit in 2004, followed by Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in 2009. He was allegedly involved in many militant operations with both the organisations.
Sub-divisional police officer S.H. Rafiq Tantrey said his force had received information about his activities and prepared a trap for him as he was crossing into Indian territory.
"Our security grid was in place to arrest them as we knew how they were coming. We then intercepted and arrested them," said Tantrey.
The militant, along with his family, has been kept under police custody, with cases registered under various sections. Further investigations are underway to determine the reasons for his return.
