Pakistan Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq slammed his ninth century to lift his side to a strong 282-4 at the draw of stumps on the opening day of the second match against England at Dubai on Thursday.
Misbah smashed eight boundaries and five sixes in his unbeaten knock of 102 and will be accompanied by Asad Shafiq (46 not out) when they resume their innings tomorrow.
Opting to bat first, Pakistan had lost Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik for their respective scores of 19 and two.
Misbah and veteran batsman Younis Khan steadied the innings by striking a 93-run partnership for the third wicket after the dismissal of Shan Masood (54).
Following the departure of Younis (56), the captain went on to add 104 runs with Shafiq to put the hosts in a commanding position and force a lead in the three-match series.
James Anderson, Ben Stokes, Mark Wood and Moeen Ali claimed a wicket apiece for England.
The first Test ended in a draw in Abu Dhabi last week, and the third will be played in Sharjah from November 1.
