Wimbledon champion Andy Murray is maintaining a positive outlook despite being on his way to drop to No.8 in the world rankings after his exit from the quarter-finals of the Sony Open at Miami.

The Scot, who failed to defend his Miami title to Novak Djokovic, is facing bleak times as he dropped to his lowest position for six years, has not won a tournament or beaten a top-10 opponent since last summer and has parted company with his coach Ivan Lendl, who guided him to his greatest triumphs.

However, The Independent reports that there are still shafts of light amidst the gloom for Murray as there were plenty of signs during his matches at Crandon Park that he is finally rediscovering his form since his comeback from back surgery, and the player is happy to accentuate the positives.

Stating that he was playing an aggressive game against Djokovic, Murray said that his game is not far from where he wants it to be.

The one doubt about Murray's clay-court campaign will be the state of his back as while the operation appears to have been a success, there were concerns in Miami when he had to have pain-killers to see him through his victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the report added.
