Britain number one Andy Murray won his second match of the day after cruising past his Spanish wildcard opponent Marcel Granollers to progress to the Madrid Open last eight on Thursday.

Murray, the world number three, registered a 6-2,6-0 win over the Spaniard, having started the tie against Phillip Kohlschreiber after midnight.

Reflecting on his performance, Murray said that he felt very tired as it was an extremely late finish, adding that he tried to pump himself as much as possible for the match, the BBC reported.

Murray, who won the title in 2008, will next square off against Canada's Milos Raonic in Friday's quarterfinal.

Meanwhile, title holder Rafael Nadal overcame his Italian opponent Simone Bolelli 6-2, 6-2 to set up a quarterfinal clash against Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov.
