Navy chief Admiral R.K. Dhowan on Wednesday asked Naval personnel to put all efforts to restore the image of the Indian Navy that has been tarnished by the recent spate of accidents involving ships.
"The recent incidents have dented the image of the navy and it should be our effort to work together to restore the professional pride and prestige of the Indian Navy. In this regard, every personnel of the Indian Navy will have to work together, putting shoulder to the wheel and pulling all the oars so that we can run an efficient, a taut and a happy Indian Navy," Admiral Dhowan said while interacting with mediapersons.
This was the first visit of Admiral Robin K Dhowan to the Eastern Naval Command in Vishakhapatnam after assuming the post of India's Navy Chief.
Dhowan took charge earlier this month, as India's new Navy Chief after the former head, Admiral D.K. Joshi resigned in February owning moral responsibility for a series of accidents.
Dhowan, a Navigation and Direction specialist with distinction in an array of Command, Staff and Instructional appointments through his exemplary career spanning 40 years, joined the Navy on January 01, 1975.
He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Defence Services Staff College and Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island, US, said the Defence Ministry statement.
Dhowan will have tenure of 25 months till May 2016.
