Nigerian expresses insecurity over his safety in India

Nigerian John King, who was granted a conditional bail in the recent Nigerian national death case, has expressed insecurity about his safety in Goa.

He is one of the three people released from the state's Sada Vasco Sub Jail.

King, who has been living in Goa for over four years now, said that he had never had any problems with either the local people or the police.

"I was even planning to get my family to live over here to enjoy ourselves but with all these problems now, if I have gotten into all this now, what about my family? So I am pleading to the government of India to take care of this thing. This is a tourist place, so when this sort of thing happens here, people will be scared of coming here," said King.

Meanwhile, the counsel for King, Kamlakant (Raju) Poulekar, said the three Nigerians were currently released on conditional bail.

The court had asked to produce the hurt certificates of all the police people. The hurt certificate did not show any external injury except for one certificate, which showed abrasion. Therefore, there was no case made out about the seven (arrested people) as far as this attempt to murder is concerned, hence they were released on bail," said Poulekar.

The Nigerian, who was found dead with stab wounds in Goa's Mapusa town on October 31, triggered protests by Nigerian nationals, who allegedly blocked roads and used sticks to attack a police vehicle that was transporting the dead body.

Poulekar said that the remaining arrested Nigerians are likely to be released on bail soon.
