Nitish Kumar has done nothing for backward classes in Bihar: BJP

Days of vote-bank politics over, says BJP leader Naqvi

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday said that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's strategy to garner votes by announcing reservation for OBC, EBC and SC/STs is not going to make any difference as his government has done nothing for the backward classes in Bihar.

"Gone are the days when vote-bank politics could be used to get votes. They need to tell people what they did for the backward classes and the farmers during their tenure. They have done nothing," said BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

"What are they going to tell people about what changes they've made or how have they made the situation in Bihar better. I do not think this proposal is going to make much difference," he added.

Nitish has announced 50 percent quota for OBC, EBC and SC/STs in all government contracts up to Rs 15 lakh and by removing the mandatory 75 percent attendance cap for students to avail benefits of the state's uniform and bicycle schemes.

The assembly polls in Bihar would be held most likely in September or October this year.

The BJP, which along with its allies had won 31 of the 40 seats in Bihar in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, is set for a battle against a united Janata Parivar comprising of the JD (U) and RJD.
