Scorching heat wave conditions would continue in some parts of Odisha, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh for the next few days, the Indian Meteorological Department has warned.
According to the met department, the heat wave has worsened due to hot westerly winds blowing from Pakistan across north India and reaching up to central India, and also due to a lack of pre-monsoon showers or storms.
The heat wave sweeping the country has killed between 800 and 900 people till now, with most of the victims belonging to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
People are doing all they can to cope with the sweltering heat as temperatures soar to nearly 50 degrees Celsius in some places.
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have witnessed the death of 333 and more than 200 people respectively, according to an official statement.
The government has, meanwhile, announced a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh to the families of the deceased.
