In an emotionally charged atmosphere at the Adelaide Oval, Australia opened batting on the opening day of the rescheduled first Test against India and amassed 354 runs for the loss of six wickets by the end of the day.
Opener David Warner played a splendid innings firing a ton in just 106 balls and contributed 145 runs to the Australian score before he was caught by Ishant Sharma off leg spinner Karn Sharma's delivery.
Australian skipper Michael Clarke scored 60 runs before he was retired hurt. Clarke had been deemed fit for the first Test after a recurring hamstring injury but the skipper limped away in the 43rd over.
The Test match got underway amid a number of tributes to late Australian batsman Phillip Hughes. The batsman passed away last month after he was hit in the neck by a bouncer during a Sheffield Shield match at the SCG.
Michel Marsh added 41 runs to the scoreline before he was caught by stand-in Indian skipper Virat Kohli off fast bowler Varun Aaron's delivery.
Wicketkeeper batsman Brad Haddin was caught behind the wicket by Wriddhiman Saha off Mohammad Shami's delivery. Nathan Lyon added three runs to the total before he lost his wicket to Shami's fast delivery.
Opener Chris Rogers went down for nine runs while all-rounder Shane Watson hit 14.
Young all-rounder Steven Smith remained unbeaten 72 and will open play on the second day when the game resumes.
