Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa had called former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to convey his wishes for the health of the latter's wife Kulsoom Nawaz, who has been diagnosed with throat cancer.

"COAS made a tel call to Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Expressed his best wishes and prayers for health of Begum Kalsoom Nawaz Sharif (sic)," Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor said in a tweet on Wednesday.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan also expressed his wishes for Kulsom saying, "I wish her the best as she fights this disease and pray she wins her battle against cancer."

Kulsoom has been diagnosed with throat cancer, a report has claimed.

Quoting sources, the Express News reported that Kulsoom was diagnosed with the disease in London last week.

Doctors, however, said the type of cancer Kulsoom is suffering from is treatable, saying she will undergo treatment soon.

She might not contest elections in NA-120 constituency, the seat vacated by Nawaz Sharif on the orders of the Supreme Court.

Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) insiders said Sharif's daughter Maryam Nawaz will lead the campaign, adding that Kulsoom may also join the drive in the last week prior to the polls.
