Employees of Pakistan's Swat district council held a protest camp on Wednesday against the non-payment of salaries for the past three months.
The employees set up the camp in front of the district nazim's office and locked all offices of the local councils across the district, the Dawn reported.
The protesting employees said that they had been facing severe financial problems and unable to even arrange food for their families.
Local Government Employees Federation chairman Iqbal Hussain said that all employees are facing psychological problems because they have borrowed money from friends and relatives since they are unable to manage daily needs.
Faizullah Khan, an employee of the council, said that gas meter of his house was taken away and the connection blocked by SNGPL as he could not pay the gas bill for three consecutive months.
During the last meeting of the council, the elected representatives had demanded immediate provision of funds for salaries of the employees.
The employees have appealed to the KP government to intervene and ensure payment of their salaries immediately.
District nazim Mohammad Ali Shah said that he was with the employees in their genuine demand.
