Pakistan, India agree to respect 2003 LoC ceasefire agreement

Khurshid satisfIed at the assurance from Aziz and stresses on more effective utilisation of the mechanism

Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has reportedly said that both Pakistan and India have agreed to respect the 2003 Line of Control (LoC) ceasefire agreement.

On the sidelines of the 13th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Aziz, post his meeting with Salman Khurshid, said that he had a useful meeting with him and agreed that respecting the agreement order is necessary to reduce tensions and for this, the existing mechanism shall be used more effectively.

According to Daily Times, the adviser expressed disappointment over the peace proceses being hindered by the August 6 incident and conveyed that to establish durable peace in South Asia is of paramount importance and should not be held hostage to electoral politics or the process allowed to be derailed by a single incident.

Meanwhile, Khurshid expressed satisfaction at the assurance from Aziz and stressed on more effective utilisation of the mechanism to dampen aggression on the LoC.

Aziz further said that both the ministers have agreed to use diplomatic channels to finalise the agenda for a meeting between the prime ministers of India and Pakistan in New York, the report added.
