PM Modi is a master of double speak: Manish Tewari

Criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his 'intolerance' remark during his bilateral visit to the UK, Congress leader Manish Tewari on Friday said he is a master of double speak.

"The Prime Minister is a master of double speak. In India, he and his fellow travelers keep on patronizing all those who spread intolerance, hatred and try to polarize the atmosphere in the country. When he goes abroad he quotes Mahatma Gandhi and Gautam Buddha. It reminds me of the old Hindi proverb 'muh mein Rama Rama, bagal mein churi' (A sweet tongue, but a hand ready to stab in the back)," said Tewari to ANI.

Also speaking on Prime Minister Modi's maiden visit to London, Tewari marked that there is nothing substantive on his visit and just a normal interaction which takes place between countries.

"There is nothing substantive to this visit at all..This is the normal interaction which takes place between countries. Therefore, the sum total of the Prime Minister foreign forays last 18 months has not been anything that can be termed as a defining event in India foreign policy," he added.

Prime Minister Modi arrived in the United Kingdom yesterday on a three day visit. He has since had delegation-level talks, addressed the British Parliament and the City of London, met representatives of the Sikh community and paid homage before a statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

He will be having another round of talks today with British Prime Minister David Cameron, both in London and at Chequers, his weekend retreat, besides having lunch with Queen Elizabeth II and addressing the Indian Diaspora at the Wembley Stadium.

He will also meet members of the House of Lords and Members of Parliament and attend a reception hosted by Indian High Commissioner Rajan Mathai in London.
