PM's 'Mann ki Baat': Won't repromulgate land ordinance

Launching a veiled attack on opposition parties for spreading myths against the land ordinance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the government won't repromulgate ordinance that lapses tomorrow.

"I have decided. The ordinance lapses tomorrow, and we will not renew it. It means the situation (Land Act of 2013) before my government taking over has been restored," said PM Modi Modi said in his 11th address to the nation 'Mann Ki Baat'.

"Even though the ordinance is lapsing, these 13 points, which were meant to provide direct financial benefit to the farmers, are being brought under the rules effective from today so that the farmers do not face financial losses," Modi said.

PM Modi asserted that the states themselves have demanded a reform in the Land Acquisition Act, to improve the conditions of farmers, but after the reforms they have started spreading myths about it and the farmers were afraid about it not knowing what to do.

"I would like to assure all of our farmers that for us, 'Jai Jawaan-Jai Kissan' is not just a slogan, but a mantra for the welfare of villages, farmers and poor. Now, there should not be any reason for fear and misunderstanding among the farmers," he said.

The Centre had earlier issued an order to include 13 Central acts like the National Highway and Railways Acts in the Land Law to extend benefits to those whose land is acquired.

The order extended the provisions relating to the determination of compensation, rehabilitation and resettlement to all cases of land acquisition under 13 Central acts which were left out in the Land Acquisition Act, 2013.
