The seventh-seed bounced back from a slow start to secure a 19-21, 21-14, 21-18 triumph over his Malaysian opponent in the contest that lasted for 54 minutes.
Meanwhile, third-seed Kidambi Srikanth suffered a major setback as he got defeated 21-12, 21-17 by Lin Yu Hsien of Chinese Taipie.
