Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi has condoled the passing away of former Supreme Court Judge V R Krishna Iyer and praised the legal luminary his deep commitment to the cause of social justice.
"His judgments exemplified his deep commitment to the cause of social justice and creating a fair and equal society," Gandhi said on Thursday.
"I am extremely saddened at the passing away of Justice V R Krishna Iyer. His loss will be deeply mourned by all those whose lives were touched by his work. My heartfelt condolences to his family," he added.
Yesterday, the eminent jurist and former judge passed away at a private hospital in Kochi after reportedly succumbing to renal and cardiac failure.
Justice Iyer, known for his forthright views, had turned 100 recently. He was sworn in as a judge of the Supreme Court on July 17, 1973 and retired at the age of 65 on November 14, 1980.
