'Record-breaker' Finch hopes T20 ton can be 'career-defining'

Australian record-breaking batsman Aaron Finch has indicated that he hoped that his historic Twenty20 knock, which announced his arrival on the international stage, could define his career.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the Victorian opener scored a world-record 156 of 63 balls, which is the highest individual score in a T20 international, in Australia's 39-run win over England in Southampton on Thursday.

The report further said that the score came at a crucial time for right-hander Finch as until that moment, he had managed only modest numbers in six previous T20 and seven one-day international appearances.

Although Finch, who was left out of the squad for June's ICC Champions Trophy, admitted that he came to Britain unsure as to whether he would stay on for the six one-day matches or not, he however, believes that he can survive the cut to the squad and cement himself in a partnership with David Warner in both formats.

Admitting that he had let a couple of opportunities slip by him, Finch said that it is not ideal for a player to be in and out of his side continuously, adding that it is nice for him and the selectors to get a big score and repay the faith of the selection committee on him.

Finch, who awed a packed Rose Bowl with an innings that featured a record 14 sixes, smashed the previous international record of 123 set by New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum and became the first Australian to score a T20 international century, the report added.
