Red Bull boss defends Vettel's F1 engine swear word use

Red Bull boss Christian Horner has come to Sebastian Vettel's rescue as he reportedly defended his racer's use of a swear word to criticise the sound of the new Formula 1 engines.

Horner said that the FIA president Jean Todt, who is reportedly unhappy about Vettel's remarks, has not contacted him regarding the matter, adding that Vettel should be applauded for saying what he thinks.

According to the BBC, despite Todt's written warning to all drivers in November 2012 telling them not to swear in media interviews, the FIA has denied that the Frenchman had warned Vettel about using bad language in public.

Horner said that they live in quite a 'politically-correct' world but part of Red Bull's philosophy, which has sometimes been quite uncomfortable, is to allow the drivers freedom of expression.

Vettel had used a four-letter word, in Malaysia at the weekend, to describe the sound of the new V6 turbo engines and complained that they sounded 'quieter than in a bar', the report added.
