Rejoicing pro Narendra Modi supporters have been preparing sweet meat as exit polls predicted a sweep for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Festivities and special prayer services were being conducted anticipating prime ministerial frontrunner Modi's victory.
Supporters of Modi in Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh, participated in a fire ritual after four major exit polls forecast that BJP and its allies will sweep to a parliamentary majority.
"We have lighted a holy fire to pray for Narendra Modi so that the upcoming results of elections add more seats to BJP and the party can come to power to set the country on path of progress," said a Hindu priest, Rameswar Upadhayay.
Pro- Modi sentiment even ruled the sweet markets of country's financial capital, Mumbai, where 2000 kilograms of traditional sweet "laddoos" were being prepared for distribution on the day of results to celebrate the victory.
