Congress MP Ninong Ering on Sunday condemned Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju's unwarranted remark on first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru and said that the statement aimed at gaining political mileage would send a very wrong message to the nation.

"Whatever Kiren Rijiju is saying, it's his personal view. The Congress Party has made innumerable sacrifices from the day it came into power. I am disappointed with what he is saying, considering the high esteemed person he is," Ering told ANI.

"The statement that he has made will send a very wrong message to the people. No one can forget the sympathy and the concern that was there in the heart of whole Gandhi family and Nehru family, especially for Arunachal Pradesh," he added.

The MP from Arunachal Pradesh stressed that it was wrong to compare Nehru with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as the former had a huge respect for the 'Iron Man'.

"If Rijiju is making such comments for taking political mileage then I think it is wrong," he said.

Rijiju had yesterday criticised Nehru for letting the people of northeast down during the 1962 India-China war, while accusing the Congress Party of forgetting true heroes like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Subhash Chandra Bose.

"It's a matter of regret that our Prime Minister left us (let us down). Patel united the country; the other Prime Minister (Nehru) left the country, surrendered the country," he said at a function organised by the BJP on the occasion of Sardar Patel's birth anniversary celebrations in Hyderabad.

Rijiju further said that most people were even kept in dark about October 31 being the birth anniversary of Patel by the Congress during its regime at the Centre. He termed it an 'injustice' and a 'big sin' against the 'Iron Man' of India.
