Nico Rosberg has edged past his team mate Lewis Hamilton to emerge as the fastest driver in the first practice at the British Grand Prix on Friday.

The German overcame Hamilton's time by just 0.07 seconds despite losing much of the session on account of loss of hydraulic pressure, the BBC reported.

17-year-old Max Verstappen finished third for Toro Rosso ahead of Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen on the Silverstone track.

Hamilton leads the drivers' championship by 10 points from Rosberg and will seek to extend his lead on Sunday.
