Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Majid Memon on Thursday said the winding up of the Shyamal Sen Commission set up by Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal Government to probe the Saradha chit fund scam would not matter much and added that it marks the opening of the criminal trial.
"If they have filed the chargesheet in the Saradha chit-fund scam then it marks the end of investigation and, therefore, the tenure of the Commission if it has ended today it would not matter much. As far as the filing of the chargesheet is concerned, naturally that marks the opening of the criminal trial...," Memon told ANI here.
"And I think that we all shall have to wait and see as to how the trial shapes and how guilty is punished no matter to which political party or howsoever strong political leader he or she be," he said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Shyamal Sen Commission constituted by the West Bengal Government to probe into the Saradha chit fund scam and to refund money to the duped depositors submitted its report. The tenure of the Commission ended yesterday.
The West Bengal Government set up the Commission in April last year and earmarked Rs. 500 crore to refund money of duped depositors.
The CBI yesterday filed its first chargesheet in the Saradha chit fund scam against Sudipto Sen, Devjani Mukherjee and suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh.
