SLC appoints Marvan Atapattu as interim head coach of Sri Lanka
The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has reportedly appointed former captain Marvan Atapattu as the interim head coach of the team following the resignation of Paul Farbrace from the position after just four months of joining.
The former right-handed batsman, who played 90 Tests, 268 ODIs and two Twenty20 internationals in a career that spanned 17 years before he retired in 2007, is the island nation's seventh coach in the last four years following Trevor Bayliss, Stuart Law, Rumesh Ratnayake, Geoff Marsh, Graham Ford and Farbrace.
According to Sport24, SLC said in a statement that Atapattu was appointed for the tour of England and Scotland starting next month and the subsequent home series against South Africa in July, and he will be assisted by former Test spinner Ruwan Kalpage for the same period.
Atapattu scored 5, 502 Test runs at an average of 39.02 with 16 centuries and his 8, 529 one-day runs included 11 hundreds, the report added.
