Social Activist Abha Singh on Wednesday strongly condemned the gang-rape of a nurse in Rampur, saying that such incidents were on a rise because the 'rapists' have no fear of the law.

She further called for speedy conviction and punishment of the perpetrators of rape.

"It is a very horrifying and painful incident that a nurse was kidnapped raped in a moving car. These things are happening despite a strong criminal law amendment act 2013, in which there death penalty for gang-rape. All these things are happening because the rapists of 'Nibhaya' are still alive and are giving interviews to the BBC from jail. There is no fear of the law that is why no one is able to stop the rising cases of rape," Singh told ANI.

"If the rapes are happening despite strong laws, then it shows that the judiciary has lost and criminals have won. There is only one way of stopping this, the rapist should be hanged to immediately rather than keeping them in jails for years. The conviction in rape cases is just 24 per cent, so it means that 75 people out of 100 walk free. It indicates that we are not preparing proper chargesheets and working out the case in proper manner. I want to request through this channel that hang 'Nirbhaya' rape convicts immediately," she added.

Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Barkha Shukla Singh called for strict action against the perpetrators of this incident.

"The Police and the administration in Uttar Pradesh is not competent. There are lots of complaints about rape and other crime against women coming from the there. The government should take a strict action in this matter and arrest the accused immediately," she said.

According to reports, a nurse was allegedly gang-raped by four men in a moving car in Rampur region of Uttar Pradesh.

The police have registered a case of kidnapping and rape against the four men following the complaint by the victim.
