Petrol prices have been hiked by 3.13 per litre while diesel prices have been increased by Rs 2.71 per litre,
effective midnight. This is the second straight hike in past two weeks.
The Congress part party was quick to denounce the move.
"It's extremely unfortunate that prices of diesel and petrol continue to rise. Is this the present that the government has given to the people of the country on the completion of its one year?" Congress leader RPN Singh told ANI.
Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, however, defended the move and said that people would get relief in the coming
time.
"The number of times when prices of petrol and diesel rose is much less than the times when prices actually declined. Prices of petrol
and diesel have been declining, people will get relief in coming time," Naqvi told ANI.
