Steve Smith says hard to live up to 'modern-day Benaud' expectations

Australian Test cricketer Steve Smith has said that he is not completely yet settled in the team after he was compared to great leg-spinner Richie Benaud and that he is just a batsman who can bowl some handy overs.

According to the Courier Mail, former Test off-spinner Ashley Mallett caused a stir in cricketing circles when he compared the pair, saying that Smith has the talent to become a Test-standard bowling all-rounder, the best of his type since Benaud.

However, Smith also said that a bowling all-rounder adds another string to the team's bow and it was always pretty handy to have a leg-spinner in the team.

The cricketer plans on working on his leggies with another Test spinner from Warne's era, Stuart MacGill, the report said.

He said that for him, it is more about time management of what he does at training and getting in the volume that he needs to become a little bit more consistent, adding that after scoring a hundred, he wants to concentrate on keeping his head down.
