The Trinamool Congress (TMC) unit in Tripura has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately intervene and order the military (army) to repair of heavily damaged National Highway 8 in Assam.

TMC state chairman Ratan Chakraborty told media Thursday, "We are requesting (Chief Minister) Manik Sarkar and demanding that he must talk with the Prime Minister of India to handover the road to the military engineering cell so that they can make it within 48 hours. It is emergency work, they can do it. During war time can make a bridge over any river within a night so it is possible on their part. We are astonished that for two months the people of Tripura are suffering like anything so he should (PM) immediately intervene."

The TMC leader alleged that the ruling CPI (M) party is purposefully not taking any step and allowing the crisis to continue to disrupt the visit and programme of TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee's visit to the state scheduled on August 9.

Chakraborty said he did not find any justification that why three governments - the centre, BJP led Assam and the Left Front government could not construct a two kilometre road.

He also alerted that due to this, the situation in Tripura is deteriorating everyday but the state government and the administration is failing to do much for the relief of the common man's problem.

Chakraborty suggested the minister and the bureaucrats of the state, who move here and there in their vehicles, are very much unaware of the ground reality and problems those a common man has to face every day and hence they should also face similar situation by keeping away from their official vehicles and realize the situation in order to bring an end to the ongoing crisis.
